Huzzah! Lords and ladies, it is that time of the year again. The Palmyra-Macedon Select Choir Madrigal Dinner is just around the corner, and with two sold out shows, the performers are elated to be performing for such a large audience once again.
The dinner is performed by the Palmyra-Macedon Select Choir each year. The students have accomplished a tremendous amount in the last year, with plenty more to come. The choir traveled to Greece last year to perform, and it will perform at Carnegie Hall in January 2017. All proceeds from this year’s Madrigal Dinner will help fund the trip. The Select Choir is grateful for the enormous amount of support from their local community.
The dinners will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 and 1:30 p.m. Dec. 11 in the Palmyra-Macedon High School Cafeteria, 163 Hyde Parkway, Palmyra.
Handbell ringers will perform before the show while attendees wait to be seated, and baked goods can be purchased from Ye Olde Bake Shoppe before and after each performance in the lobby. This event has been a tradition for 24 years, and it’s all due to director Jill Davis, of Brighton.
Performers have been working on this skit since May 2015. Some of the cast, including Alanna Viscosi, Emma Jackson and Sydney Shadders, said that even though it can be stressful at times, becoming part of Select Choir means hard work and dedication. The choir spends 2 1/2 hours rehearsing in the school’s Lower Cafeteria, which will be decked out in Renaissance decor as it is transformed into a whimsical atmosphere come show time with carolers, garlands and wreaths.
The choir will dress in Renaissance apparel, with dresses and braided crowns for the ladies and pants with stockings for the lords. The lords and ladies will travel from table to table, providing entertainment by singing; selling roses, head wreaths and baked goods; and storytelling.
The appetizers will include bread, cheese and fruit, and dinner will feature roast beef, rosemary potatoes, salad and glazed carrots. Dessert will be a choice of an apple or cherry turnover. Wassail will be introduced with a song.
