The Autism Center at Ontario ARC, 3071 County Complex Drive, Canandaigua, will host sensory friendly events to encourage acceptance and discuss autism spectrum disorder during Autism Acceptance Month.
Local events include a Sensory Friendly Build-A-Bear Workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. April 2 at Eastview Mall, 7979 Pittsford Victor Road, Victor. Registration is required.
Adventures of Movement and Sensation Inc., 6528 Anthony Drive, Victor, will host a free open play gym event from 1 to 3 p.m. April 30. Sensory friendly play activities and equipment include a zip line, foam pit, ball pit, mats, swings and a climbing wall.
Other events include a Sensory Supper from noon to 4 p.m. April 9 at Smokeman BBQ, 4520 state Route 364, Canandaigua; Relaxation Night from 7 to 8:45 p.m. April 12 at Ontario ARC; and Sensory Friendly Bowling from 6 to 8 p.m. April 28 at Roseland Bowl, 4357 Recreation Drive, Canandaigua.
Ontario ARC and local YMCA organization will participate in the third annual Light It Up Blue on Wednesdays starting April 5. The community is encouraged to wear blue on Wednesdays to help spread awareness and encourage acceptance.
