Macedon soldier joins National Guard unit

Spc. Aaron Valino, of Macedon, recently joined his New York Army National Guard unit during a transition ceremony at Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.

Valino was welcomed into the 222nd Military Police Company.

He recently completed the National Guard Recruit Sustainment program, which provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their initial military training.


Stanley cadet graduates from West Point

Cadet Michaela Ann Hoover, of Stanley, recently graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point.

Hoover graduated from Marcus Whitman High School in 2013. She concentrated her studies in life science while at West Point and played softball for the Army Black Knights for all four years.

She was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army within the field artillery branch. She will report to Fort Bragg, North Carolina for her first assignment.

The mission of the U.S. Military Academy is to educate, train and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of duty, honor, country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the nation as an officer in the U.S. Army.
