Laurel House Comfort Care Home in Newark recently was awarded a $10,000 matching grant from the Bullis Fund through the Rochester Area Community Foundation.
This grant will be used to upgrade the heating and air conditioning system of the home being developed at 224 Fair St.
The Bullis Fund was created from the estate of Jeanette ‘Nettie’ Bullis, a businesswoman whose family settled in Macedon in the late 1830s. Grants from income generated by the endowment fund are recommended by a committee of Wayne County representatives to reflect Bullis’ interest in improving the quality of life of residents of Wayne County.
Tom McUmber, board member and treasurer of Laurel House, indicated that grants of this type, combined with volunteer labor have resulted in the installation of new windows and door, wiring, kitchen cabinets and interior framing and insulation.
“There is still much to be done, but we are making steady progress, and the result will be a very nice facility,” said McUmber.
