The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 120 of Palmyra would like to thank the very generous contributors to our annual poppy drive over the Memorial Day weekend. As well, a special thank you to Breen’s Shop and Save for allowing us to set up inside their store. For three days, we were greeted with smiles and even some special stories from veterans themselves.
Our auxiliary unit is very active in Palmyra, providing support to American Legion Post 120 and area veterans and their families. Your poppy donations are put to work through programs such as Zion House, a home for homeless female veterans; Priscilla House, a female veterans home sponsored by Veterans Outreach Center; Valentine’s Day balloons to all veterans at Wayne County Nursing Home; Christmas fruit baskets to all shut-in veterans who are members of our post; and more. This year, we have also contributed funds to help support National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, where veterans can express themselves through crafts and arts.
Locally, Unit 120 is active in working monthly steak dinners in the colder months, providing food and refreshment for veteran and member funeral receptions, children’s activities such as Halloween Warm Up and Christmas crafts, a Memorial Day luncheon for members and families and our annual Veterans’ Night Dinner on Veterans Day. We enjoy a presence in our community by joining efforts such as contributing to Pal-Mac’s Last Bash, offering an annual sponsorship through Dollars for Scholars and hosting a Palmyra Junior High School female student the opportunity to participate in Empire Girls State each year, an intense program focusing on Americanism and the political process to help students better understand democratic ideals.
Through the kindness of the residents of our community, your donations are helping to provide good and productive opportunities for our veterans and their families. Thank you so much. God bless you all.
