Heathwood Assisted Living at Penfield, 100 Elderwood Court, recently celebrated the opening of Memory Care, a 44-unit addition for memory-impaired individuals.
After a year of construction, the two-story addition features a first floor with 24 memory care apartments, a dining room, kitchen, an activities room and a quiet space. Other features include a courtyard and walking path.
The program for memory-impaired individuals is designed to create a calm and comfortable environment. Staff members are trained in evidence-based practices to manage dementia-related behaviors and help residents feel at home.
“Our commitment to help others is affirmed everyday by our dedication to the humanity, dignity and well-being of residents entrusted to our care,” said Bonnie Goodwin, administrator. “We are so grateful to bring this philosophy to memory care.”
The second floor will offer 20 additional assisted living apartments.
“We are so pleased to have additional assisted living apartments available to our ever growing population here in Penfield,” said Carla Suero, president and CEO.
The second floor also features a 900 square foot wellness area to provide space for activities and exercise classes.
