Boris Vasquez, Bolivian musician and conductor, will visit Rochester in October as the special guest at the AAVia Foundation’s fourth annual gala.
The gala will be held Oct. 13 at Casa Larga Vineyards in Fairport. Hosted by the AAVia Foundation for the Health of Bolivian Children, this year’s celebration will feature a cocktail hour, buffet dinner, silent auction, and a special music performance by Vasquez.
Returning as master of ceremonies is Ginny Ryan, anchor of 13WHAM News and reporter.
Vasquez conducts the Youth Symphonic Orchestra of Santa Cruz, a nonprofit that works to “make it possible for children and young people of limited resources to be guided in the field of music,” with free music education that children in Bolivia are otherwise unable to access. He encountered the AAVia Foundation through mutual friends in Bolivia and then saw the nonprofit’s funding in action in the rural Pucarani province.
Vasquez noted that the AAVia Foundation is “a project worthy of respect and admiration,” seeing similarities to his own efforts to impact the lives of Bolivian children. Gala proceeds will benefit the AAVia Foundation’s partner programs in Bolivia, including the hand and dental hygiene program Clean Hands, Healthy Schools, and scholarships for students at the School of Nursing at Pucarani.
“Every year we strive to bring some of Bolivia’s culture to Rochester,” said Mackenzie Malia, president and co-founder of the AAVia Foundation.
In past years, the special guests have included doctors and artists. Gala tickets can be purchased at AAViaFoundation.org/annual-gala.
