The training being provided by Force Science Institute does not train police officers in the justification of the use of force. Instead, it focuses on helping them to better understand the human factors of force encounters that may affect an officer’s perception, decision-making and response.
One of the goals would be to help the officers become more judicious in force encounter situations.
Dr. Lewinski and FSI have been utilized extensively by the U.S. Department of Justice and many other law enforcement agencies, as well as medical and psychological organization both nationally and internationally. The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services is sponsoring FSI Training in Erie County and in Nassau County in coming months.
Further, Dr. Lewinski was personally invited in the past to participate in President Obama’s Commission on 21st Century Policing. Obviously, the FSI training program has been thoroughly vetted by a wide variety of governmental agencies and other organizations in terms of its legitimacy, value and appropriateness.
The Rochester Police Locust Club firmly believes that the FSI training that we are sponsoring will ultimately be of value not only to our members, but to the citizens of the Rochester community that we serve, as well.
