School 50, Helen Barrett Montgomery and Henderson Ford applauded the efforts of the local businesses and community members for helping the annual book drive collect nearly 4,000 books.
Collection for the drive started in early summer and ended Sept. 15. Business partners that were involved as book donation-collection sites included Webster Chamber Health Insurance Service, Edge Advertising Group in Fairport, Omero’s Custom, A Different Point of View in Pittsford and Steinmiller Insurance in Webster.
The donated books from many members of our community were driven to the Rochester City School District School 50 by Henderson Ford vehicles. At School 50’s open house, students with their families arrived, noting balloon decorated Henderson Ford vehicles in the entrance driveway. During the open house, while the students and their families visited their respective classrooms, representatives from Henderson Ford were positioned throughout the school at tables topped with books for selection. The evening concluded with Aki Henderson addressing the families in the cafeteria, talking about the value of reading and sharing her personal experiences.
“This is an amazing accomplishment of which we are all proud. The reason we do this book drive every year is for the children. We want to support their love for reading, make it fun and enjoyable. Technology has advanced so much over the years, and Henderson Ford wants to make sure that kids still understand the simplest wonder of opening a book and using your imagination,” said Henderson Ford Operations Manager Aki Henderson.
