The Fairport Athletics Program recognized coach Robert Longhouse’s 43 years of service and dedication to the girls soccer program Oct. 7.
Longhouse began his soccer career in 1975 at Fairport and led that varsity team to a Section V championship. He did the same in years 1983 and 1987. The 1983 team went on to be Eastern Division and Western Regional champions, too. He won Coach of the Year in 1983 from the Democrat & Chronicle and Brighton-Pittsford Post and received coaches citation awards from the Monroe County Athletic Association for achievement in interscholastic athletics.
During his 43 years, Longhouse has been a positive influence on many athletes and played an integral part in the development of the girls’ soccer program at Fairport.
Longhouse began his teaching career at Fairport in 1970 after serving 3 1/2 years in the Marine Corps. He received his degree in education from SUNY Brockport in 1966 and retired from teaching physical education at Fairport in 2001.
His last home game with his final Modified A team was Oct. 25.
