An event Wednesday spotlights six local athletes on the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team

Six Bristol Mountain Freestyle Team members will compete this winter on the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team — formerly the U.S. Ski Team. Today, one of the team members is to receive special recognition on behalf of the team of local athletes known as the “Bristol Mountain Super Six.”

Pittsford native Morgan Schild, 20, a U.S. Ski & Snowboard Freestyle Mogul World Cup Gold Medalist, is to accept the recognition from state Sen. Rich Funke, R-Fairport, at a press conference, Bristol Mountain announced. Funke plans to present Schild with a proclamation acknowledging the accomplishments of all six athletes at 2 p.m. at The Studios at Jay Advertising, 170 Linden Oaks Drive, Rochester.

“It is believed that no other home ski mountain in the United States has this number of athletes represented on the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team, let alone all competing in the same discipline, which for these six athletes is the Freestyle Team,” stated Bristol Mountain.

The “Bristol Mountain Super Six” grew up skiing at Bristol Mountain in South Bristol, where they later joined the Bristol Mountain Freestyle Team and competed under the direction of Coach John Kroetz, 2015 USSA Domestic Coach of the Year.

The Freestyle Team is comprised of moguls and aerials athletes. Bristol Mountain is represented on the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team by: Jon Lillis (aerials, eight years); Dylan Walczyk (moguls, six years); Morgan Schild (moguls, four years); Harrison Smith (aerials, four years); Chris Lillis (aerials, two years); and Patrick O ‘Flynn (aerials, first season).

The six are among 29 of the best Freestyle skiers from over 425 ski areas in the United States who have earned a spot on the 2018 U.S. Freestyle Ski Team at the A, B or C level.

“We are extremely proud of these amazing athletes who not only represent Bristol Mountain, but also the Finger Lakes and Rochester communities,” stated Bristol Mountain General Manager Dan Fuller. “Three of the six hold World Cup Rookie of the Year titles, one is the current Aerials World Champion, two are U.S. National Champions and many are World Cup competition winners.”

The goal for all six athletes is to represent the U.S. at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Jon Lillis, Schild and Chris Lillis were selected by the U.S. Ski & Snowboard to participate in the 100 Days until the Winter Olympics Kick Off event in New York City this past week. Morgan joined 29 other U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes on the "Megyn Kelly Today" show, and Jon entertained a crowd in Times Square with trampoline tricks while wearing skis, similar to the maneuvers he does during a competitive event, according to Bristol Mountain.

“It’s exciting to see our home mountain athletes getting so much media exposure,” stated Bristol Mountain Marketing Director Drew Broderick. She said it is an honor to have the senator recognize these “six terrific athletes with a proclamation.”
