Henderson Ford, The Andrew Langston Center for Educational Excellence, Advantage Federal Credit Union, Attorney Van White, WDKX, 13 WHAM ABC, WUHF Fox Rochester and CW Rochester are partnering together to reward the efforts of students in the Rochester City School District.
Their shared goal is to assist in the development of students, to focus on their education, believing that every minute matters with scholastics. They want students to attend school, freshman to become seniors and seniors to walk across the stage at graduation.
Each of the partners has a long-term commitment to the education of youth. Henderson Ford, has been serving the local community for more than a decade through education-based initiatives. The Andrew Langston Center for Educational Excellence is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, created to inform children and families about the importance of graduation and to improve the opportunities for them to have affordable access to education for student success. The Advantage Federal Credit Union began as a teacher’s union in 1931 and has continued its commitment to education. White is committed to graduation through his law firm, including a focus on the historical and future growth of civil rights. WDKX shows its cultural connection in Rochester and the surrounding communities with ongoing educational initiatives. The media centers, 13 WHAM ABC, WUHF Fox Rochester and CW Rochester, have also made commitments to education, utilizing news and programming for youth and adults.
This is the second year the aforementioned partners have championed a Ford Focus car giveaway to a Rochester City School District senior. One student, along with multiple cash winners, will win a new Ford Focus. Integrated arts and technology student Alexandra Fraguada was picked out of 12 schools and hundreds of student entries — but her passing third quarter report card was the entry that won her a new Ford Focus in June.
Seniors have the opportunity to enter for the car and cash prizes through academic achievements and school involvement:
• One to three chances, passing quarterly report cards — one per quarter for first, second and third quarters.
• One to three chances, attendance, no more than three unexcused absences or less tardies/quarter — one per quarter for first, second and third quarters.
• One to three additional chances, attendance, zero unexcused absences or tardies/quarter — one per quarter for first, second and third quarters.
• One chance, uploading a video to WDKX.com explaining why graduating from RCSD is important.
• One chance, participating on a school team or school sponsored club.
• One chance, for downloading the RCSDLink — to access the app: visit bit.ly/2AO7kqo for Android or apple.co/2C6dT80 for iPhone.
• One chance, financial literacy, Banzai Program participation, sponsored by Advantage Federal Credit Union, through RCSD Parent Portal App.
There are 12 Rochester City Schools that will be taking part in the giveaway: World of Inquiry School No. 58, East Upper School, Edison Career & Technology High School, Integrated Arts & Technology High School, James Monroe High School, Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School Commencement Academy, Leadership Academy for Young Men, Northeast College High School, Rochester Early College International High School, School of the Arts, School Without Walls Commencement Academy and Vanguard Collegiate High School.
Rochester City School seniors can register independently online or seek help from their teachers or counselors. The winners will be announced at the end of the 2018 school year.
