Webster Central School District recently announced that the O’Connor Band with Mark O’Connor, featuring Webster Schroeder High School alumna Kate Lee (Gurnow) O’Connor, will be visiting as artists in residency Jan. 17 at Webster Schroeder High School, 875 Ridge Road, and Webster Thomas High School, 800 Five Mile Line Road.
The O’Connor Band will perform at both high schools for Webster CSD instrumental and choral ensemble students in grades four through 12 and high school junior-level social studies’ students. Mark O’Connor will provide educational narrative regarding the historical time and place of the Band’s bluegrass genre across the generations. Inspiration for the O’Connor Band’s bluegrass and fiddle music is focused on the Revolutionary and Civil War eras and post-war times. O’Connor has performed and lectured on the significance of cultural connections in music with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma and Wynton Marsalis.
