Some children might be sad the holidays are over, but not students at Autumn Lane Elementary School in Greece.
The week after they returned from winter break, students were treated to Autumn Lane’s Winter Wonderland indoor obstacle course.
Physical education teacher Tara Giordano and PTA President Michelle Munnings worked together to transform the gym. The event took place during PE classes over two days so that every child in the school could participate.
“I love that when the students leave school on Friday, they leave a normal school gym,” Giordano said. “Then, it has turned into this magical winter wonderland for them when they come to school on Monday. The looks on their faces when they walk into the gym are priceless.”
The gym was covered with wintery decor, such as blue and white lights, a giant inflatable Olaf snowman, white-lighted reindeer and murals of snowmen created by students from past years.
The course itself is exciting and physical. Some of the obstacles included snow tunnels, cargo net, zipline and swinging rope.
“It really is quite an experience for the kids,” Giordano said. “It lasts 30 minutes total, but I’m pretty sure that the memories will last a lifetime.”
