Gates Fire District swears in new chief

Gates Fire District recently welcomed Alan Bubel as its new chief.

Bubel started as an explorer at Chili Fire Department in 1984. He became a firefighter in 1987.

He has 34 years of experience in fire service. Bubel served as assistant fire chief at GFD for the previous eight years.

 

Eastman School of Music appoints associate professor

Guy Johnston was appointed to associate professor starting in fall 2017 at Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester.

Johntson earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 2003 from Eastman. He currently serves as professor of cello at Royal Academy of Music in London.

He performed in the choir of King’s College, Cambridge, where he recorded “Once in Royal David’s City” under Stephen Cleobury. He received the BBC Young Musician of the Year title, the Guilhemina Suggia Gift, Shell London Symphony Orchestra’s Gerald MacDonald Award and a Classical Brit Award at Royal Albert Hall in London. His mentors included Steven Doane, Bernard Greenhouse, Steven Isserlis, Ralph Kirshbaum and David Waterman.
