Anglers are expected in Powder Mills Park, 154 Park Road, Pittsford, on April 2 for the 15th annual Riedman Foundation Trout Derby to benefit the Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park.
The all-ages derby will run from 7 a.m. until noon and is open to the public for a $5 fee. For the ninth consecutive year, Bank of America will underwrite the derby’s chief prize, the Bank of America Angler Award. This recognition includes a $500 award and acknowledgement on a commemorative plaque on permanent view at the Hatchery building on Park Road.
Bank of America’s contribution to opening day derby brings vital attention to the not-for-profit hatchery as an important community resource.
“We’re honored to underwrite the Bank of America Angler Award and to be part of another exciting year supporting the Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park,” said Bank of America Market President Jeff Adams. “The Fish Hatchery enables families to come together in the Rochester community to enjoy this special day of fishing in the park, while expressing our gratitude to the Riedman Foundation for their commitment to maintaining this wonderful community treasure.”
The Bank of America Angler Award has recognized derby contestants from Monroe and surrounding counties. The youngest recipient was 5-year-old Gavin Murray, of Webster, who reeled in a 10-pound trout during the 2015 tournament. Other past recipients include Chris Young, of Farmington, 2010; Gilberto Bauguero, of Henrietta, 2011); Rifet Mutapcic, of Fairport, 2012; Marc Angarano, of Livonia, 2013; two-time honoree John Cufari of Pittsford, 2014 and 2017; and Douglas Scharett, of Shortsville, 2016.
