Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf announced two opportunities in May for area residents to volunteer and help end local hunger.
The events help GEFS through the summer months when children are home from school and have less access to free breakfast and lunch programs.
The Crop Walk will provide the community an opportunity to donate, walk or volunteer at 1 p.m. on May 6 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 4301 Mount Read Blvd., Rochester. Walkers can follow an outlined path, or create their own and travel as little or as far as they wish. Messiah Lutheran will offer food and activities after the event.
Most of the money from the Crop Walk stays local, with a portion going to end state, federal and international hunger. The event is open to all ages.
Stamp Out Hunger, the annual postal workers food drive, is scheduled for May 12. Residents are encouraged to leave nonperishable food donations for their mail carriers to pick up when on their delivery rounds.
GEFS needs additional help to join its 200 volunteers. Drivers can volunteer as little as one day per month or more often, if desired. Call (585) 277-5370 for information.
