Rochester Museum and Science Center, 657 East Ave., is seeking artists to create a permanent replacement panel for the Dentzel Carousel at Ontario Beach Park in Rochester.
A panel featuring racist artwork was removed in 2016. Local artists can submit artwork for the panel depicting a black panther, an animal that is a historically important and respected symbol for the black community and others.
Artists need to deliver sketches of their proposed design and samples of other finished work to RMSC by May 13. Designs must include a black panther, be consistent with other carousel panels and be unsigned.
Organizers will select finalists by May 18. The community will vote on the finalists on May 19 at Central Church of Christ, 101 S. Plymouth Ave., Rochester. Visit rmsc.org for information.
