Jewish women of Rochester have been assembling in the spirit of community and philanthropy for over two decades for the Jewish Federation’s Main Event for Women, set for 5:30-8:30 p.m. on May 7 at Temple Beth El, 139 S. Winton Road, Rochester.
The headliner will be author, journalist and broadcast producer Abigail Pogrebin, who recently published “My Jewish Year: 18 Holidays, One Wondering Jew,” an expanded chronicle of her popular column for “The Forward,” for which she spent 12 months researching and observing every holiday in the Jewish calendar.
Pogrebin is also the author of “Stars of David: Prominent Jews Talk about Being Jewish,” among other works. She was a broadcast producer for Fred Friendly, Charlie Rose and Bill Moyers at PBS, then for Ed Bradley and Mike Wallace at 60 Minutes. Pogrebin has been published in Newsweek, New York Magazine, The Forward, Tablet and The Daily Beast.
The Main Event raises support for the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester, which works to build a strong Jewish future in Rochester, Israel and worldwide through philanthropy, education, engagement and advocacy.
The cost to attend the program, which includes a buffet dinner and cocktails, is $75 by May 3. Visit to register.
