Webster Central School District residents will receive a budget newsletter this week with details regarding the proposed 2018-19 spending plan and board of education election. You may also view the newsletter at websterschools.org by clicking on the District Budget link under the district tab. This year’s budget vote and board of education election is on Tuesday, May 15, at the Webster Schroeder High School gym, 875 Ridge Road, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Every year, the district undergoes a budget planning process that evaluates our educational programs’ needs and includes invaluable collaboration with community members who are part of the Budget Advisory Committee — BAC. I’m thankful to BAC’s community members who take the time to meet with district administrators and staff as we prepare a spending plan together. There is much information shared about the district’s planning process during BAC meetings, and I encourage community members who want to learn more about budget planning to participate in this important committee next year by emailing Lisa_Borrino@webstercsd.org.
WCSD’s proposed 2018-19 budget of $172,316,603 includes funding for all facets of our district’s educational programs. That includes a second school resource officer, a nationally renowned music education program and science, technology, engineering and mathematics curriculum, additional elementary school math teaching assistants, and Transforming Learning Through Technology, a 1-to-1 student device initiative that provides an iPad or Chromebook to every WCSD student, grades K-12.
This year’s proposed budget represents an estimated 1.34 percent change in Webster residents’ school tax rate for the coming year. Also, by remaining at New York State’s tax levy limit formula cap of 3 percent, our homeowners are eligible for the tax rebate plan in fall 2018 for the seventh straight year.
Please remember to exercise your right to vote on May 15. You don’t need to be a registered voter to vote, but you must be a WCSD resident with proper identification. I look forward to visiting with our One Webster community members on May 15.
