Rochester Area Administrators of Volunteer Services is a professional organization for individuals who administer volunteer services in Greater Rochester. For over 30 years, RAAVS has promoted, advocated for and supported the development of professionalism among volunteer administrators.
RAAVS meets every second month for a program meeting, and provides mentoring for volunteer coordinators as well as support and networking among local agencies.
RAAVS will hold its annual symposium on June 6 at YMCA Camp Arrowhead, 20 Arrowhead Road, Pittsford. The event includes two award presentations.
The Carol Ritter-Wright Award for volunteer service recognizes an individual volunteer or group for their outstanding volunteer service in Greater Rochester.
The nominees are Alan Clunies, of Penfield, volunteer for Fairport Baptist Homes Senior Options for Independence; Leigh Collins, of Irondequoit, pet therapy volunteer with Heritage Christian Services; Andy LaManna, of Webster, volunteer with Meals on Wheels; Nona and Jim Mauer, of Greece, volunteer coordinators of the Community Wishbook; and Jeanne Strazzabosco, of Penfield, Camp Cory Unite Campers program, YMCA of Greater Rochester.
The Jerry Bennett Excellence in Volunteer Administration Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates outstanding achievement in professional management and volunteer engagement as a volunteer administrator.
The nominees are Bernadette Bowie, senior volunteer services regional specialist, American Red Cross Western and Central NY Region; Paula LaManna, coordinator of volunteers and service learning, Gates Chili Central School District; Deb Palumbos, program director, Lifespan of Greater Rochester; and Lani Sherrill, manager of volunteer learning and development, Girl Scouts of Western NY.
