A neighbor heard Nala's barking, discovered her tied up alone to the porch of an empty home and took her to the Ontario County Humane Society
A small dog's barking alerted a neighbor to an abuse situation where the animal was found tied to the porch of an empty home without food or water.
The Ontario County Humane Society reports Leah D. Coleman, 27, of 4459 County Road 50, Canandaigua, had been evicted May 24 from her previous residence at 300 Castle St. in the city of Geneva because living conditions were unsanitary and uninhabitable.
The dog, Nala, was found at the Castle Street address and is now being taken care of by the Humane Society where she is being treated for a skin condition, resulting in scabs and lost fur. She was brought to the Humane Society by the neighbor who found her.
Chief William McGuigan said Coleman is charged with animal cruelty, animal abandonment and failure to provide food and water to an impounded animal.
Coleman is scheduled to appear at later date in Geneva City Court.
