Brian Saez, 26, admitted to selling heroin to 33-year-old Sean Vaniderstine an hour before Vaniderstine died last month.

The suspect charged with criminally negligent homicide in connection to a deadly overdose pleaded guilty Thursday.

Brian Saez, 26, admitted to selling heroin to 33-year-old Sean Vaniderstine an hour before Vaniderstine died last month.

Gates Police Chief James VanBrederode said he hopes Saez's plea is part of a new precedent for law enforcement when it comes to drug dealers.

"We will pursue every overdose death just like it was a shooting or any other type of a homicide case," Chief VanBrederode said. "Lastly, I think today is a small victory for all the different victims who are out there. The obituaries in the paper... the names continue to appear."

Investigators say Saez already had four prior felony convictions.
