Historic Valentown Museum will host a square dance fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 16 in Milly’s HandleBar Cafe at Harv’s Harley Davidson, 3120 Kittering Road, Macedon.
All net proceeds will go toward siding repair.
Old Time Hoedown will perform fiddle and banjo tunes, melodies and old-time songs from the mountains of southern Appalachia, as well as the string band era of the early 20th century.
Margaret Mathews will provide dance calls and cues. Callers teach the moves of each dance, so people of all experience levels and ages can participate.
The barbecue from 3 to 4 p.m. will offer pulled pork with sauces, kaiser rolls, macaroni salad, baked beans and tossed salad with two dressings. The fundraiser includes a cash bar.
Valentown Museum’s original wood siding is over 135 years old and in serious need of repairs. In some places, birds are getting into the museum through holes in the siding.
The state of the siding is creating a destructive situation that endangers the building and its century-old contents. The siding is the most important element to keep the building standing. Repairs are costly, and the desire is to match the existing siding as closely as possible. The museum hopes to locate and purchase repurposed barn wood. Costs for siding repairs must cover the siding and contractors, plus the four- to five-story scaffolding that will be necessary.
Registration costs $23. Tickets are available online and at Harv’s Harley Davidson, Milly’s HandleBar Cafe and Valentown Museum, 267 High St., Victor, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sundays. Visit bit.ly/2MuG2hQ for information.
