Iggy, a 1-year-old female Masai giraffe, recently arrived to Seneca Park Zoo as part of Monroe County’s “Animals of the Savanna” expansion. The exhibit is set to open on Sept. 13.
“Another day marks yet another exciting addition to the Seneca Park Zoo family through our new ‘Animals of the Savanna’ expansion,” said Cheryl Dinolfo, county executive. “Iggy’s arrival means we are one step closer to putting the finishing touches on our expansion project, which has supported 200 local jobs through the construction phase and will help foster stronger families here for years to come. Please join us for our ‘Animals of the Savanna’ grand opening celebration on Sept. 13.”
Iggy, who was born on June 4, 2017, at Virginia Zoo, is acclimating well to her new home and companions. She shares her habitat with another 1-year-old female giraffe named Kipenzi from Toledo Zoo, two plains zebra and two ostriches.
The new animals will not be viewable by the public until the grand opening of “Animals of the Savanna” on Sept. 13 to give the animals time to acclimate to their new surroundings, caretakers and each other.
