Michael Boester, associate professor of geography at Monroe Community College, will present “The Geography of Mount Hope Cemetery” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 15.
The walking tour will chronicle Mount Hope’s evolution from America’s first municipal rural cemetery to meeting current trends in natural burial and cremation.
Human geographers view cemeteries as evolving cultural landscapes that reflect the beliefs, values, attitudes, behaviors and styles of specific places and times. Boester’s research focuses on the rural cemetery movement.
Admission is $40. Reservations are required. Attendees will meet at the North Gatehouse, 791 Mount Hope Ave., Rochester. Visit fomh.org for information.
