Wickham Farms, 1303 Sweets Corner Road, Penfield, planted more than 100,000 sunflowers and 15 different sunflower varieties to cover a five-acre field with sunflowers during the spring.
The sunflowers are part of sustainable farming practices and crop rotation strategy to maintain good soil health at the farm. After the sunflowers bloom, the farm will harvest them and bring them to Golisano Children’s Hospital to help “Spread the Sunshine” to the people staying and working at the hospital. Before harvesting the sunflowers, the farm will open the field to the public for the Sunflower Spectacular event.
Guests can pick their own sunflowers, get lost in the new corn maze, hop on a hayride through the vegetable fields and apple orchard, enjoy fresh doughnuts, test their aim with the new apple cannons or pick their own early-season apples.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 6-9. Sept. 6 and 7 are for access to sunflower fields and for picking sunflowers. The hayride, maze, apple cannons and apple orchard will not be open those dates.
General admission tickets are $5 online and $7 at the gate — children 2 and younger are free. Fun Pass with sunflower admission and Ultimate Pass with sunflower admission tickets are available. Tickets can be purchased at wickhamfarms.ticketleap.com/ss.
Parking will be available on site at 1303 Sweets Corners Road for no additional charge with a paid ticket.
