The Rochester Hispanic Business Association, a Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce affiliate, will host Jorge Diaz-Herrera, president emeritus of Keuka College, as the keynote speaker for its Hispanic Business Person of the Year gala luncheon on Sept. 27.
Arline Santiago, senior vice president, general counsel and legal director for ESL Federal Credit Union, will receive the 29th annual Hispanic Business Person of the Year Award at the luncheon.
Diaz-Herrera became the 19th president of Keuka College in July 2011. He previously served as professor and founding dean of the College of Computing and Information Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology in 2002-11; professor of computer science and department head at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia, and Yamacraw project coordinator with Georgia Tech in Atlanta; senior member of the technical staff and associate professor of software engineering at Carnegie Mellon’s Software Engineering Institute; associate professor of software engineering and department chairman at Monmouth University in New Jersey; and assistant professor of computer science at George Mason University in Virginia and SUNY Binghamton.
He conducted consulting services with national and international firms and government agencies. Diaz-Herrera serves and has served on national and international technical advisory committees and governing boards. He chaired national and international conferences, and was a technical reviewer for the National Science Foundation, American Society for Engineering Education, and several conferences and journals. He currently serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Applied Sciences and Art. He has more than 100 publications.
Diaz-Herrera completed his undergraduate education in Venezuela, and holds a master’s degree and doctorate in computing studies from Lancaster University in England. He completed two graduate certificates in leadership in education from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education in 2007 and 2011.
