The downtown Rochester venue will now be a smoke-free facility, for one thing.

The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial unveiled new changes aimed at enhancing the safety of fans starting with the 2018-2019 season.

The downtown Rochester venue will now be a smoke-free facility with no designated areas for smokers on property grounds during games or events. This includes any electronic smoking device as well.

The facility will also employ the use of hand-held metal detectors. Fans will be subject to screenings upon entry.

As well as this, only personal bags such as diaper bags, medical or purses will be permitted inside.

Backpacks, coolers, duffel bags and brief cases will be prohibited.

“We strive to make it a priority every season to improve the overall safety of our fans while providing the best experience possible,” said Rob Minter, vice president of business operations for the Rochester Americans and The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. “Having these new policies in place, in addition to the ongoing improvements within the venue, will allow us to accomplish both as we enter yet another exciting season in downtown Rochester.”
