Kemez has worked for the company for over 10 years.

Edina Kemez was born in the war-torn former Yugoslavia, but on Tuesday she she made history for one local pizza chain by becoming the first woman to own and operate a Salvatore's franchise.

Kemez, who came to America when she was seven, has worked for the company for over 10 years, and took over the Spencerport franchise on Tuesday.

The Greece Athena graduate says she credits her parents with instilling in her a good work ethic.

"My father brought us here to the United States with only $500 in his pocket to support us and start a new life," she said in a press release, "My parents are the hardest working people that I know. They encourage me to work hard every day, and they remind me of all the amazing opportunities that are available. I am lucky to have them as supports and role models."

Although she studied nursing, Kemez says that the restaurant industry and owning her own business is her true passion, and that she looks forward to meeting customers.
