About two dozen Eastridge High School students, as part of their ninth-grade English class, penned notes to veterans who were taking part in Honor Flight 62.
Their messages were delivered during the trip as part of mail call.
When the plane returned to Rochester on Sept. 30, many of the students who wrote the letters were there to greet the flight. Some got to see the recipients of their note in person.
Honor Flight is an organization that provides veterans trips free of charge to Washington, D.C., so they can visit the memorials in and around the nation’s capital. Honor Flight 62 was the first from Rochester that carried only Vietnam veterans.
The East Irondequoit Teachers’ Association held a fundraiser and raised money to sponsor one of the veterans.
