The Pittsford Mendon High School cross-country team competed in four Division 1 races Oct. 6 at the Midlakes Invitational in Clifton Springs, site of the Section 5 Championships in November. The Vikings battled mud and humidity to conquer the 3.2-mile course, bringing home three trophies.
Jessica Robinson led the junior varsity girls’ team to victory with her first-place finish. Robinson was followed by Izzy Reynolds in third, Ellie Anstrom in fifth, Lexi Herman in eighth and Carly Cody in 10th. The Vikings’ varsity girls won their race also, led by Oliva Lucia’s second-place finish. Crossing the finish line after Lucia were Maggie Casey in fourth, Riana Heffron in eighth, Rachel McCarthy in 11th and Livia Betti in 21st.
The Vikings had the second-best junior varsity boys team of the day, led by Max Serling’s fourth-place finish. Serling was followed by Drew Cox in eighth, Evan Hackett in 15th, Ben Rosero in 18th and Gavin Clouser in 19th. Sam Lawler’s first-place finish in the varsity boys race set a new course record and helped his team capture fourth place. Crossing the finish line behind Lawler were Jimmy Smith in 12th, Nico Valentine in 29th, Matt Queiroz in 31st and Tom Morrell in 44th.
