Fairport Crew Club’s fall season is underway, with three regattas in the books and three more competitions coming up.
On Sept 22, the varsity squads raced at the Head of the Welland — 5 Bridges Fall Classic in Ontario, Canada. Crews rowed the 5.2-kilometer, 3.2-mile, course on the Welland International Flatwater Centre.
Fairport hosted the Lift Bridge Regatta on Sept. 30. Youth and masters crews from the Rochester and surrounding areas came to race on Fairport’s home course, with the finish line in Perinton Park. Fairport highlights from the regatta include the Novice Girls 4, with Lily Krienke as coxswain, Ava Sutton, Ava Drew, Kara Woods and Emma Klice, earning bronze medals with a third-place finish. The Varsity Girls Lightweight 4, with coxswain Hannah Sterrett, Sarah Danesh, Olivia Quattrociocci, Tessa Olsen and Alyssa Stafford, placed third, also earning bronze medals. Novice Girls 8, coxed by Lily Krienke, with Alison Hills, Ava Drew, Allie Schultz, Victoria Groysman, Zoe Jimenez, Mallory Wood, Sami Vella and Caitlyn O’Leyar, placed second, winning the silver medal.
The Head of the Genesee was held Oct. 7. Fairport had 12 boats competing on the over-5,000-meter course. The Fairport Varsity Girls A boat finished fifth in their race, beating five other boats. The 8B finished sixth and the C boat in 13th in their race. Varsity girls fours raced hard, with the Lightweight 4 winning bronze for a third-place finish. The varsity boys raced an eight and a four, battling down the course against tough competition. Due to a strong current on the river, novice races were canceled.
Fairport Crew is sending a Varsity Girls 8 to the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston. Fairport will compete at the Head of the Fish in late October and at the Pull the Plug regatta in Pittsford, to complete the season.
