The Hilton-Parma Gazebo Band, conducted by Charles Schmidt, will perform free community Christmas concerts in December at three area churches.
The band will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 at First Presbyterian Church, 35 State St., Brockport; 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 at Park Ridge Free Methodist Church, 10 Straub Road, Rochester; and 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 at Hilton Baptist Church, 50 Lake Ave.
Nonperishable food item donations will be accepted at the door for the community food shelf.
These concerts will feature traditional holiday songs, and a novelty piece with tuba soloist John Montgomery and vocal soloist Dean Strussenberg. The program will include a medley from “South Pacific” by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, “Galop” by Shostakovich, and a march movement from Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite.
The band will utilize a symphonic gong that was given to honor Mary Reazor for her 35 years of service as charter member, trombonist, music librarian and band manager.
The Hilton-Parma Gazebo Band is a volunteer organization comprised of musicians from Monroe and Orleans counties. It was founded in 1984 by Hilton music educator Gordon Bascom.
The band performs throughout Greater Rochester, and presents its annual series of summer concerts at the Gazebo at Centennial Park and other venues in Monroe County and the surrounding area.
