Foodlink recently received a $20,000 donation from the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation to address food insecurity in the Rochester and Finger Lakes region.
The donation is part of the Fill Your Tank program, which launched in 2016 to mark Enterprise’s 60th anniversary by providing $60 million to fight hunger globally.
The program distributes $10 million annually for six years among larger food banks and charities throughout North America and Europe, in addition to smaller local food banks and pantries in North American communities served by Enterprise. Local donations are determined by area Enterprise operations, distributing $5 million annually to local food banks and pantries.
“Two years ago, Enterprise Rent-A-Car committed to help address food insecurity around the world, including right here in Rochester,” said Coe Bockmeier, vice president and general manager of Enterprise Holdings’ upstate New York region. “We support Foodlink in their fight against hunger in our community.”
Although there is enough food produced to feed the global population, 1 in 9 people go to bed on an empty stomach, according to the World Food Programme. In the U.S., 41 million people face hunger, including nearly 13 million children and more than 5 million seniors, according to Feeding America.
“This generous gift from the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation will go a long way to helping us address food insecurity in our 10-county service area,” said Julia Tedesco, president and CEO of Foodlink. “This donation translates into 60,000 meals we can provide to our neighbors. We’re so grateful to Enterprise for their ongoing commitment to ending hunger and building healthier communities.”
