OFC Creations (Opportunities for Creativity) will offer ROC Summer Theatre Experience, a new camp for young actors ages 4-18, on July 8-Aug. 24.
Campers will participate in 15 musical theater productions across three venues with 25 directors. Most camps run two weeks from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with options for before and after care hours. Each camp ends with performances open to family, friends and the public.
The camps will include productions at the following locations.
The Lyric Theater, Downtown Campus: “Alice in Wonderland,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “Annie Jr.,” “High School Musical Jr.,” “The Wizard of Oz Young Performers Edition,” and “Dogfight.”
The Kodak Center, West Side Campus: “Beauty and the Beast Jr.,” “Once on this Island Jr.,” “Shrek Jr.,” “Les Miserables School Edition,” “Grease School Edition,” and “Newsies.”
Seton Catholic School, East Side Campus: “Rapunzel” and “Winnie-the-Pooh Kids.”
Eric Vaughn Johnson, executive director of OFC Creations, has designed and spearheaded the Summer Stock program at the Rochester Association of Performing Arts since 2013, leading 400-450 campers throughout the summer. He served as artistic director of SNAP Musical Theater for four summers, with casts of 80 kids performing shows like “Hairspray’ and “The Little Mermaid.”
“We wanted to bring a one-of-a-kind theater opportunity for youth in Rochester during the summer months,” Johnson said. “The professional arts are rich for Rochester audiences. We aim to bring that same quality in theatrical education components.”
The ROC Summer Theatre Experience team includes Emily Beseau, Courtney Larkin and Elizabeth Lind, of Greece; Jason Rugg, of Irondequoit; Hector Manuel Ortiz, of Penfield; Rebecca Kemp, of Pittsford; and Hunter Ekberg, of Rochester.
Additional directors and staff members are Casey Jones Costello, Zachary Frazee, Vincent Salvadge and Jamie Wisset, of Brighton; Amanda Hartmann from The College at Brockport; Angie Bemus, of Canandaigua; Meghan Halley, of Fairport; Brianna Ross from SUNY Fredonia; Lexi Gleichauf, Kristina Jewell, Eric Schutt and Sable Stewart, of Greece; Kendra Hacker from the University of Kansas School of the Arts; Mandi Gurell, of Penfield; Jane Huffer from the University of Rochester; Courtney Weather, of Rochester; and Misty Irwin, of Spencerport.
