With the temperature holding steady at 23-degrees F, a hearty band of swimmers embraced the icy waters of Lake Ontario at Charlotte Beach at noon Sunday as a part of the annual Polar Plunge fundraiser.

The Polar Plunge is a premier fundraiser for Special Olympics New York, drawing nearly 2,000 plungers and raising $250,000 last year.

Stacey Hengstman, president and CEO of Special Olympics New York said, "The more funds we raise, the more we can expand our programs, giving our athletes more opportunities to train and compete."

Perhaps this event is a lake effect that all can appreciate.
