Students of all ages will star in OFC Creations’ productions of “Madagascar Jr.” on Feb. 22-23 and “Rent: School Edition” on March 8-9 at The Lyric Theater, 440 East Ave., Rochester.
“Madagascar Jr.” features a cast of 25 local students ages 7-12. The program will rehearse for one week over February break. For many cast members, “Madagascar Jr.” will be their first experience in performing arts.
Based on the DreamWorks animated motion picture, “Madagascar Jr.” follows the same friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on a musical journey to the world of King Julien’s Madagascar.
“Madagascar Jr.” will run at 7 p.m. on Feb. 22, and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Feb. 23. Tickets cost $10.
“Rent: School Edition” features a cast of 36 local teens ages 10-18. Students started rehearsing in January and meet twice a week. Most are experienced actors, dancers and singers.
“It is such a rewarding experience for both the artistic staff and students,” director Hunter Ekberg said. “The show’s theme is multigenerational and we are diving into this iconic story in many ways that speak to these teenagers.”
“Rent: School Edition” follows a year in the life of young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. The production will run at 7 p.m. on March 8, and 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on March 9. Tickets cost $12.
Students can enroll in OFC Creations’ spring classes, including Sage Confidence for Princes and Princesses for ages 4-7, “Frozen Jr.” for ages 7-17, and “The Little Mermaid Jr.” for ages 7-14. Registration is open for summer camps.
