County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo announced the 2018-19 Coats for Seniors program collected a record 720 winter coats for seniors in need.
“Cold winter weather can be challenging for everyone,” Dinolfo said. “For our local seniors, having a warm coat delivered right to their door can make a big difference when it comes to ensuring their comfort and safety. For over 15 years, our Coats for Seniors program has harnessed our community’s generosity to help keep thousands of our older neighbors warm and safe. I thank Medical Motors, the Greater Rochester Area Partnership for the Elderly and all of our partners for getting more warm coats to more local seniors than ever this winter.”
In December, Dinolfo was joined by Deputy Majority Leader Tanya Conley, R-18th District, from the Monroe County Legislature, as well as representatives from Medical Motors, GRAPE and Colony Dry Cleaners, to kick-off the 15th annual coat drive.
To date, the Coats for Seniors program has collected over 10,000 coats through donations by local residents. At the end of the program, coats or winter items not selected by seniors are donated to local shelters and clothing closets.
