I was disappointed to read that the Henrietta Town Board raised town taxes 29 percent.
I recognize we have two new buildings but a 29 percent increase is not reasonable.
I served on the Henrietta Town Board for 28 years, and I worked full-time for the town in finance and personnel for another six years. We kept the tax rate at approximately $1.10 per thousand for those 34 years with little or no debt.
At the same time, we built a new highway garage, purchased hundreds of acres of parkland, purchased the Tinker Homestead and bought a new highway truck almost every year. We also cut waste and duplication wherever we could.
It was never easy but working with the different town supervisors we kept the rate constant for over three decades. I remain optimistic this town board can do better in the future.
