Rep. Tom Reed, R-Corning, announced Wednesday that he has reintroduced a bill to fund the hiring of more school resource officers or SROs.

The School Resource Officer Act would assist law enforcement agencies in hiring additional school resource officers by directing funds for cost-sharing grants to pay the officers' salaries and benefits.

Reed says he continues to receive input from across the district from superintendents, teachers, parents, and professionals about ways to make schools safer. He was joined by 10 other congressmen to reintroduce the bill.

Reed represents the 23rd congressional district, which includes the eastern part of Ontario County along with a large swath of the Southern Tier.
