A Marion family is in mourning after losing a 79-year-old loved one in a house fire.

Family confirms with our news partner, News 10NBC that Beatriz Murray died in her Wayne County home when the fire broke out Monday. It happened just before 2 p.m. on Cory Corners Road in Marion.

The victim's grandson was the second occupant of the home and says he was out for lunch celebrating his birthday when he got a call about the fire. He says he rushed home and tried to gain entry to the house to save his grandmother but the flames were too out of control.

According to family, the property was built in the 1800s, which the 79-year-old called home for about 50 years.

Ms. Murray is a mom of six and grandmother to many. Her grandson says, above all, she was a loving person who did anything for family.

Multiple fire crews responded to the fire on Cory Corners Road but the home was already engulfed in flames and considered too dangerous to enter.

The home is now considered a total loss by Walworth fire officials.

According to New York State Trooper Mark O'Donnell, the body of an adult elderly female had been discovered in the Wayne County home that went up in flames just before 2 p.m. O'Donnell said state police would not officially release the name until an autopsy Tuesday.

The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
