The Victor Chamber of Commerce will host its eighth annual Women of Excellence Awards at 5:30 p.m. on March 20 at Ravenwood Golf Club, 929 Lynaugh Road, Victor.
The community’s Native American roots are exemplified by Ganondagan, the Seneca historic site. To recognize this history, the Victor Chamber recognizes women who demonstrate the qualities of Jikohnsaseh, a founder of the Iroquois Confederacy.
The Jikohnsaseh Award honors a woman who lives and/or works in Victor, and reached an impressive level of professional achievement while serving as a professional role model, leader and mentor.
This year’s nominees are Elizabeth Biehler from Allstate Insurance, Michele Caruana from Climbing Vines Cafe and The Caruana Group, Jennifer Gossage from Ravenwood Golf Club, Lisa Olek from LINQ Transportation, Emily Smith from Fisher Associates, and Alicia Sturn from Farmington Dental.
The Lantern Award for lifetime achievement celebrates a woman who contributed significantly to the community by volunteering or participating in community programs and initiatives. She serves as a role model and demonstrates achievement in the areas of volunteerism, community activism, leadership and mentoring over an extended period of time.
This year’s nominees are Jane Gerace, a volunteer for Friends of the Victor Farmington Library; Carol MacInnes, a volunteer for Victor Hiking Trails; and Dot Norsen, a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
The Student of Promise Award recognizes a young woman age 15-25 who attends school or lives in Victor, and is dedicated to education while significantly contributing to the betterment of Victor and surrounding communities. This student serves as a role model and demonstrates achievement in the areas of leadership, mentoring, activism, volunteerism or participation in community initiatives.
This year’s nominees include Aubrey Ahern, Jordan Gravino, Barbara Hansen, Allison Heltz, and Katie Kopp from Victor Senior High School, and Elizabeth Ann Ives from Finger Lakes Community College.
Tickets cost $40 for Chamber members and $45 for non-members, and must be purchased by 4 p.m. on March 19. Sponsorship opportunities and tables of 10 are available, with dinner included.
