The Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester recently announced an initiative that offers free admission for up to four people with each Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program card.
In 2019 and beyond, MAG hopes to welcome 500 Rochester residents each year, with a balance between repeat and new visitors.
MAG introduced MAGconnect in 2016 to offer free transportation, complimentary admission and a one-year MAG membership to community residents in need. Other free and reduced-price opportunities to visit the museum include the Celebration Series, half-priced Thursday nights and $5 Fridays once each month.
“Making MAG accessible to the broadest possible audience has always been a priority,” museum director Jonathan Binstock said. “Making MAG free for SNAP cardholders is yet another way we can make sure people feel welcome at the MAG.”
