Eastman Opera Theatre will present Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” on April 4-7 in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, 26 Gibbs St., Rochester.
“Don Giovanni” first premiered in 1787 at the National Theater in Prague. The EOT production, directed by Stephen Carr with musical direction by Timothy Long, will bring a contemporary eye to the themes in the era of the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements.
Don Giovanni’s hobby is seducing, then jilting, innocent women. While “Don Giovanni” traditionally takes place in mid-18th century Spain, this production is set in a 21st-century urban location where women often feel unsafe.
