Olympian & American Record holder Miranda Melville, New York Athletic Club, won the 2019 Toyota USATF Indoor 3,000 meter Race Walk Championships.
This is Melville’s 15th USATF National Championship.
Melville crossed the line with 12 minutes and 57.58 seconds at the 3,000-meter indoor event ending her indoors season ranked ninth in the world.
“I am grateful for this performance as it is a positive indicator going into the outdoor season and the longer Olympic 20K distance,” said Melville. “It has been a rough last two years. This race is a step in the direction I want to go, and I am hoping to continue this momentum through the outdoor season ahead.”
“This was really a breakout race for Miranda,” said coach Tim Seaman. “The ups and downs of life can be difficult and doesn’t discriminate if you are an Olympian or Olympic hopeful. What has impressed me most is how Miranda has been able to deal with and overcome the obstacles that life throws at you.”
This past Dec. 29, she won gold and reset her own American Record at the 5,000-meter race walk championships at the Holiday Classic held on the Rochester Institute of Technology campus in Rochester.
