CANANDAIGUA — Rescuers were able to coax a Labrador mix to shore after she was seen standing on the Canandaigua Lake ice some 200 yards from shore Monday morning.

The Ontario County Sheriff's Department, Ontario County Humane Society and the Canandaigua and Crystal Beach fire departments responded at 8:08 a.m. March 18 for the report of a dog stranded on the ice in the Poplar Beach area. The 8-month-old female Lab mix had not fallen through and was not injured. Rescuers were able to walk out on the ice, approach her and coax her to shore, then they followed her back to her residence.

The dog's owner, Thomas Klem, 58, of 3525 East Lake Road, Canandaigua, said she had got loose the day before but he hadn't reported it to anyone. He was ticketed with having a dog at large in the Town of Canandaigua. He will appear in Canandaigua Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.
