A fisherman saw a vehicle at the bottom of the lake earlier this week causing deputies to launch their Underwater Search and Recovery Team Friday morning. The Ontario County deputies found a 60 to 70 year-old vehicle about 21' deep. It was determined it has been there a long time, due to the amount of silt and algae. They did not find any skeletal remains inside.

The Ontario County Sheriff's Underwater Search and Recovery Team responded to Canandaigua Lake after a fisherman reported they saw a vehicle underwater earlier this week.

On Friday morning, deputies launched a boat and went about 300 yards offshore near Butler and West Lake roads. They discovered a vehicle from the early 1950s to early 1960s about 21 feet underwater. Due to the amount of silt and algae, deputies say the vehicle had been there for many years.

The trunk, passenger’s door, and interior were missing from the vehicle and no identification numbers were located on the vehicle. The photo of the find was taken by a deputy from the boat.

A search and recovery team did not find any human remains in the vehicle.

The DEC will determine what action is needed, if any, regarding the recovery of the vehicle.
