The New York State Ballet will present “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at 2 p.m. on April 13-14 at Hochstein Performance Hall, 50 N. Plymouth Ave., Rochester.
The ballet tells the tale of Oberon, king of the fairies, and Queen Titania, along with a cast of characters that get swept along in their magical antics — a mischievous elf, a lost traveler, two sets of lovers and a duke.
This Shakespearean frolic through the forest set to a score by Felix Mendelssohn will feature a live orchestra conducted by Yunn-Shan Ma and the Women’s Choir from Webster Schroeder High School.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is brought to the Hochstein stage by artistic director Katherine Johnson, ballet master Robert Royce and graduate program director Alexandra Brydsten. This production features students from NYSB’s Training Academy and graduate program dancers, in addition to the professional company artists.
