WRUR-FM (Rochester) and WITH (Ithaca) invite local bands and musicians to participate in NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Contest. Videos can be submitted to n.pr/2TQbTsf until 11:50 p.m. on April 14.
Musicians interested in entering the competition must play one original song at a desk and upload a video of the performance to YouTube to submit with the entry form.
NPR Music welcomes music from all genres, and entrants from previous years are encouraged to submit again with new material.
Artists must be at least 18 years old and live in the U.S., District of Columbia or the U.S. Virgin Islands. The winning artist(s) must be available to travel to Washington, D.C., between May 27 and May 29 to record their Tiny Desk performance at NPR Headquarters, and go on tour in spring 2019.
WRUR and WITH will select three local winners to perform at a concert in Rochester this summer.
“Each year, the contest inspires musicians to get together with their friends and make something,” said Bob Boilen, creator of the Tiny Desk concert series and host of “All Songs Considered. “it’s wonderful to receive all these unique creations and witness how the community has grown. Just like at the Tiny Desk concerts, all genres and instruments are welcome.”
Tiny Desk alumni Lucy Dacus, Jason Isbell and Ledisi will review submissions to find artists they love. The judging panel also will include KCRW host Raul Campos and KEXP DJ Abbie Gobeli, as well as hip-hop critic Rodney Carmichael and Boilen.
